About Department
Department of Poultry science is one of the disciplines in the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Agricultural University, Peshawar, Pakistan and was established in 1987 comprising undergraduate laboratory, hatchery unit and poultry research unit in the in the main building of AUP. Later the research activities of the department were further strengthened with the establishment of postgraduate laboratory with modern equipments and another poultry research unit at Malakandher. In the beginning there was a composite B.Sc (Hons) and M.Sc (Hons) degrees at faculty level and the department offered courses in these degree programs. The Ph.D programme was initiated in the department of Poultry in 1998. In 2001 the faculty started the DVM program and the Department of poultry science offer courses in this program. The full pledged M.Sc. (Hons) and Ph.D program in Poultry Science has been initiated in 2003 to better train the students in the relevant field and impart specific skills so that they could better serve the community and increase farm income through innovations and modern husbandry practices.
