One-Day Training Workshop on Mushroom Farming April 23, 2026


The Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) at The University of Agriculture Peshawar in collaboration with the Department of Plant Pathology and Al-Fitriyat Farm, organized a one-day training workshop and expo on mushroom farming titled:
“Practical Mushroom Farming, Value Addition & Commercialization: Fungi Fiesta, Mushroom & Byproduct Expo 2026.”

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Dr. Sar Zamin Khan inaugurated the expo by cutting the ribbon.

Resource person Muhammad Zeeshan briefed the Vice Chancellor regarding the mushroom stalls displayed at the expo.

Addressing the participants, Prof. Dr. Sar Zamin Khan said that such training workshops and expos provide valuable learning opportunities for students. He highlighted the nutritional, medicinal, pharmaceutical, and commercial importance of mushroom cultivation. He urged graduates to learn mushroom farming technology and adopt it on a commercial scale. Furthermore, he emphasized the role of mushrooms in ensuring food security and mitigating the impacts of climate change. He added that universities are not only meant to award degrees but also to equip students with practical skills, enabling them to become responsible and self-reliant citizens.

Director ORIC Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arif and Chairman Department of Plant Pathology Prof. Dr. Asad Ali also elaborated on the importance of mushroom cultivation. They highlighted its role in addressing food security, malnutrition and climate change, while also discussing its medicinal value in the prevention of certain types of cancer.

Resource person Muhammad Zeeshan and other experts delivered technical sessions on mushroom production technology, covering nutrition, medicinal uses, pharmaceuticals, business opportunities and culinary applications. In addition, practical training on mushroom cultivation and substrate preparation was also provided.
