Prof. Dr. Sar Zamin Khan, Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Agriculture, Peshawar has assumed charge as Acting Vice Chancellor of the University.

Previously, he has served as Dean of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences and Chairman of the Department of Poultry Science.
Prof. Dr. Sar Zamin Khan is a senior academician and administrator who has rendered outstanding services in teaching, research, and administration at the University. He has also played an effective role as a member and head of various academic and administrative committees.
The faculty and all staff congratulated him on assuming charge as Vice Chancellor and expressed hope that under his leadership, the University of Agriculture Peshawar will achieve further progress in academic and research fields.
Prof. Dr. Sar Zamin Khan is a distinguished researcher and educationist in the field of Animal and Poultry Sciences and is currently serving as Professor of Livestock Management at the University. He possesses extensive experience in teaching, research, and administration.
He is the Controller of the Avian Disease Diagnostic and Research Laboratory and also serves as a visiting expert with the Wildlife Department, Government of Pakistan (Avian Section). In addition, he is serving as the head of the Biosecurity Expert Panel in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He has approximately 29 years of experience in teaching, research, and administration, including 12 years in leadership roles. His major research areas include poultry production, alternative protein sources, avian diseases, biosecurity, animal breeding, and environmentally sustainable livestock systems. He has consistently prioritized public health, environmental protection, and animal welfare in his research.
He obtained his DVM degree from the University of Agriculture Faisalabad, and completed his MSc (Hons) and PhD in Animal Sciences from the University of Agriculture Peshawar. Furthermore, he completed postdoctoral research at the University of Tsukuba, Japan, and the University of Minnesota, USA, including a Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellowship.
During his academic career, he has supervised 20 PhD and over 150 MS students. He has published more than 90 research papers in international journals and authored several books and practical manuals in livestock and poultry sciences.
Prof. Dr. Sar Zamin Khan has developed six patents, which have been submitted for registration at IPO Karachi over the past three years. He has over 120 research publications, including 94 published in impact factor journals.
He has successfully completed 15 research projects. Recently, with financial support from the Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) and in collaboration with the University of Minnesota, USA, he developed an important local vaccine against Infectious Bronchitis Virus (IBV) in poultry. The vaccine has been developed at the Veterinary Research Institute Peshawar and has shown success in initial trials.
One of his groundbreaking innovations is the development of an Organic Mycotoxins Detoxifier, currently under registration. This invention is expected to safeguard billions of dollars in exports and help ensure that meat, milk, and eggs are free from mycotoxin residues.
He has received several prestigious awards, including the PCST Productive Scientist Award (2014), HEC Best University Teacher Award (2015), and the Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellowship (USA, 2018).
He has introduced several key innovations in the poultry and livestock sector, including artificial insemination technology in broiler breeder farms in Pakistan, biogas-based energy models for poultry farms, promotion of poultry manure as biofertilizer, research on insect protein (mealworms and superworms) as alternative feed, and vaccine development for livestock and poultry diseases.
He has established international research collaborations with institutions in China, the USA, Turkey, the Netherlands, Malaysia, and Japan, and has also worked with various national research organizations.
Prof. Dr. Sar Zamin Khan is an HEC-approved PhD supervisor, a member of the Association of American Avian Pathologists, and has served on selection boards, boards of studies, and national committees of various universities.
He has also organized national and international conferences and has participated as a speaker in numerous academic forums.
Expressing gratitude to the provincial government, Prof. Dr. Sar Zamin Khan stated that his academic and research efforts are aimed at promoting all sectors of Agriculture and Livestock and welfare of environmentally friendly agricultural systems.
