The Department of Horticulture is one of the leading disciplines in the university. The Department of Horticulture is actively involved in uplift of the community in terms of human resource development through applied research and training in the fields of fruits, vegetables and ornamental plant production. The teaching and research activities of the faculty/student is supported by two laboratories, 38 acres research farm and 2 acres ornamental nursery. Horticultural crops are high value cash crops, that can alleviate poverty of the farming community and can fetch foreign exchange by exporting quality products. This can only be achieved by having quality planting material and up-to-date management practices. The Department aims at providing training in production practices, insects, pests and disease control, counseling regarding day-to-day problems in various disciplines of horticulture. Several independent project have been implemented by the departments in the areas of seed potato production, postharvest management, plant propagation and ornamental crops.
