This PGDC was started in Pakistan with the guideline of UNIDO under European Union (EU) TRTA-II program. This diploma is internationally accredited by The Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS). The aim of this diploma is to produce trained qualified manpower in the field of food safety & control.

"Transformation of human health status and enhancement of international trade in foods through better food safety practices"

Food safety is not just an issue of law enforcement, it also relates to the health and safety of the people, to the nation's image and to bilateral and even multilateral political relationships. The safety and quality of food is a major concern for consumers, retailers, manufactures and regulators. High profile incidents have highlighted the need for effective management systems and regulatory frameworks for food safety at the local, national and international levels. Current PGDC is aimed to improve post-harvest practices and to increase professionals within this field require specialized knowledge and skills to help them identify and effectively manage risks. For these challenges, this PGD has been designed to meet the development needs of international food safety specialists working in commerce and industry and enforcement agencies.
This PGDC program is based on the following need assessment findings;
  1. Inadequate skilled personnel to cope with emerging food-safety issues.
  2. Upgrading of knowledge and skills for the personnel on current developments in food safety and quality.
  3. Growing recognition that food safety is an emerging profession in food production, processing and marketing chain.
The objectives of this PGDC program are:
  1. To provide graduates with practical skills that enable them to develop, implement and audit food safety management systems.
  2. To ensure safety and quality of food products as per mandatory legal requirements and voluntary standards including export regulations.
  3. To enhance human resources for facilitation of production of safe foods and enhance domestic and export market access.
University will accept applications from candidates having B.Sc. (Hons) Agriculture, M.Sc. in Biological Sciences, Home Economics (Food & Nutrition) and Chemistry.

This program is seen to be of particular relevance to those wishing to improve their expertise in food safety and quality management system. The program is also of relevance to students with a general enforcement/ food industry/catering services/ Human nutrition background who wish to specialize in food safety and control.

The qualified diploma holders will be absorbed in food industry, government and semi-government organizations as well as in new openings such as:
  1. Food Safety Officers and Food Inspectors in KPK Food Safety and Standards Authority.
  2. National Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services
  3. Ministry of National Food Security and Research
  4. Food Business Operations (through-out food-supply chain)
  5. Resturants and Hotels
  6. Flight Kitchens, Airports & Sea-ports
  7. Armed Forces
  8. Health Institutions/Hospitals
  9. International Organizations i.e UNICEF, WHO, WFP, UNIDO, UNDP, FAO, MI, UNHCR, USAID, USDA etc.
  10. Food Certification and Auditing Bodies
Candidates will appear in an entry test that will comprise of two parts; General & Technical.
Qualifying marks will be 50% in each part.
Candidates who have already passed NTS based GAT test may be exempted from the general part of entry test.
Selection will be based on merit however; University holds the right to give special consideration to deserving candidates.
